Mums and children at an Asian women’s charity have helped raise £250 for charity.

Service users at Aawaz in Accrington have held a variety of activities over the summer holidays including collections, baking, biscuit decorating and arts and crafts.

All proceeds have gone to Hyndburn Mayor Munsif Dad’s Mayoral Charity Fund.

Aawaz manager Zulekha Dala said: “We have had young and old and everybody taking part.

“We wanted to create more awareness, tell them the importance of the Mayor and how they can participate in the community and we’ve had some really good discussions.

“We have raised £250 but it is ongoing so we hope to raise even more.”

This year's chosen charities are Accrington and District Blind Society, East Lancashire Hospice, North West Air Ambulance and Macmillan Cancer Support in Hyndburn.

Coun Dad said: “When I last came to Aawaz they had an event for health and awareness about dementia and I requested if they could help the good causes that I have and they’ve taken that on board.

“I’m extremely grateful for everyone at Aawaz including the management, service users and the people who contributed to this fund.

“Every single penny counts and it will be going to good charities that will help the local community.

“I wish them all the success as they are continuing to raise money and hopefully I will be back here in the future to collect some more.”
