A COMMUNITY achievement award for outstanding voluntary workers is to be named after Caneze Riaz.

The Aawaz Women's Group has decided to dedicate the award to the memory of Caneze who perished in the Tremellen Street blaze on 1 November with her husband and four daughters.

Chairman of Aawaz, Saeeda Farooq, said: "The award will be known as the Caneze Riaz Voluntary Work Award and it will be awarded annually to any woman who is recognised for her outstanding voluntary and community work and in particular her work with women."

The first Caneze Riaz award will be presented at the group's New Year celebrations which will be held at Accrington Town Hall on Friday 5 January.

If anyone would like to nominate a woman for the award they should explain why she deserves to win the accolade in no more than 100 words and send the application to Hyndburn Voluntary and Community Resource Centre, St James Old School Buildings, Cannon Street, Accrington, BB5 2ER, or e-mail aawazhyndburn@yahoo.co.uk .
