Police found 16 cannabis plants following a flat fire in Oswaldtwistle yesterday.

The accidental blaze happened on Union Road at around 6.50am in a kitchen.

Fire chiefs said a 36-year-old man was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation after he tried to put it out. He has since been released.

The man was then arrested on suspicion of producing a controlled drug and has been bailed.

A 29-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis but has been released with no further action taken.

Firefighters tackled the fire on Sunday, September 23 int he flat above a shop.

Parts of the kitchen were severely damaged and there was smoke damage to the shop below.
