John Coleman has revealed he still hopes to sign one more player before the start of the League Two season.

Stanley kick-off their campaign with a game against Doncaster at the Wham Stadium on Saturday, August 6.

It’s a new-look Reds side, with a number of players leaving and fresh faces joining the club over the summer.

While Coleman is happy with the team he has currently assembled, he is in talks to add another recruit.

“I am pleased with the squad. I would like to add one more, who I am speaking to, but we will wait and see on that one,” he told the club’s official website.

“At the moment it’s about getting the players up to peak fitness at the right time, for the first game of the season against Doncaster.”

Stanley have had an average pre-season so far, suffering defeats at Stalybridge Celtic and Barrow, along with a draw at Skelmersdale United.

The loss to Barrow come on Tuesday, with Ross Hannah and Jordan Williams getting the goals for their side.

While they may only be friendlies for his side, Coleman is adamant that results do matter in pre-season.

“We are in the business of winning games and we have to realise that. We have got to do whatever it takes to win games,” he said.

“It’s important for fitness and conditioning and all that but for me the most important thing is that we win.

“We’ve tried to stress to the lads the importance of building a winning mentality and as much as you’re trying to improve fitness you also have to improve timings and understandings with each other.

“It all leads to one thing which is the aim of winning games. That’s a

habit that we have to get into.

“I think if you go into the season in good form then you tend to stay in good form and that was certainly the case last season. We have a few games left and we want to get up to full speed.

“We’re still experimenting as it would be foolish to show your hand too soon in terms of your 11 but everyone has the opportunity to stake their claim to a place in all the games and every day in training.”

Stanley’s pre-season campaign ends on Saturday when they make the trip to the Shay to take on National League North side Halifax Town.
