MICHELLE McManus had better watch out after Natalie Graham clinched a Pop Idol contest at Accrington's Moorhead High School.

She beat off competition from around 50 other young hopefuls to clinch the top spot and even impressed deputy head Andy O'Brien, who acted as Mr Nasty Simon Cowell during the event.

She sang Memory from Andrew Lloyd Webber's smash-hit musical Cats to win the title and is set to receive her prize before the end of term.

Music teacher Eddie Purcell said all the students showed real talent but it was Natalie who shone the most. He added: "She was the clear winner when all the votes were counted up. It was great as the students didn't just vote for their friends."

Year 8 pupil Natalie, who can also play the clarinet and piano, is set to take a GCSE in music next year as she enjoys the subject so much.
