A couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with a blessing in Great Harwood.

Maureen and Joseph Arnfield marked 50 years of marriage on June 5 and the following day attended St Wulstan’s Church in Great Harwood for a blessing by Father Clarke.

The couple, who have two sons, seven grandchildren and one great-grandson lived in Clayton-le-Moors all their married life until moving to Leyland earlier this year and always attended St Wulstan’s Church.

Retired registrar Maureen, 74, and former engineer Joseph, 80, also held a party attended by 25 family and friends.

They also enjoyed a cake served on the stand from their wedding day in 1965.

Maureen said: “We had an amazing day and to put the icing on the cake the Red Rose Barber Shop singers came and sang for us. They were just brilliant.

“But we couldn’t miss a return to our church St Wulstan’s in Great Harwood for a blessing by Father Clarke which our son Heath and his wife Tash and granddaughter Daisy managed to attend. It simply made our weekend complete.”
