A derelict pub is set to be brought back into use following a £340,000 transformation.

The Hyndburn Bridge pub between Clayton-le-Moors and Great Harwood, which has been closed for almost a year, will reopen next month creating around 25 to 30 full and part-time jobs.

The project by Heineken-owned Star Pubs and Bars will see the ‘tired local’ renamed ‘The Hyndburn Restaurant and Bar’ and run by experienced couple Stuart and Melanie Blackledge.

Pub bosses said funds are being spent on a ‘complete overhaul’ of the interior and exterior and will see the installation of a ‘theatre-style pizza preparation area’ so customers can see their pizzas being made.

It will also include a deli counter, new drinking area with high butchers block tables and a multifunctional room area for both parties and functions. Traditional features such as the fireplaces will be retained while the interior and bar will be brought up to date.

The Whalley Road pub will be handed over to Stuart and Melanie next month ahead of the opening on September 30.

The new licensees have run a popular deli in Blackburn for the last eight years and between them have more than 25 years’ experience.

Stuart said they want to become one of the ‘best food pubs in the area’.

He said: “I’ve had in mind the type of pub I’ve wanted to run for a number of years and am really excited that we have the opportunity to do so, thanks to this massive investment by Star Pubs and Bars.

“We’re looking forward to a new life in the area and to become an important part of the community, having had a great deal of positive feedback from local people already.

“The Hyndburn Restaurant and Bar will have a real family friendly feel and, as parents of three children ourselves, we think we will be able to deliver great food for kids at great prices.

“With the pub we’re able to combine two great passions – a love of good quality food and also excellent service.”

Chris Jowsey, trading director of Star Pubs and Bars trading director, said: “We’re delighted to be investing in and helping Stuart to realise his dream and wish him and Melanie the best of luck in their new venture.

“They have the ideal background and enthusiasm to create a fantastic top quality family friendly food pub.”
