A prestigious band has been invited to perform in the borough by Great Harwood and Rishton Rotary Club.

Around 200 people are expected to see The Band and Corps of Drums of The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers (Lancashire) at the event, organised by Great Harwood resident Ann-Marie Etherington.

David Shaw, of the Rotary Club, said they were ‘really fortunate’ to have the band perform.

He said: “We haven’t done anything as big as this before and we haven’t done a concert for a long time.

“In the past we have only done smaller ones at the community centre in Great Harwood, mainly to entertain the old folk. The whole concert has been organised by one of our newest members, Ann-Marie Etherington, and she has only been with us less than a year.

“It’s going very well and we have sold lots of tickets and raffle tickets.”

The two-hour concert will be held at Norden High School in Rishton and will feature a wide variety of music. One of the highlights of the evening is expected to be the band’s ‘Black Light Show’ which is a display of precision drumming under the cover of darkness.

The band members’ movements will only been seen by the ultra-violet light from their sticks.

Mr Shaw said most of the tickets have been sold and raffle sales have been boosted by top quality prizes. He said: “We have some fantastic raffle prizes, with an iPad, Kindle Fire and an iPod shuffle, which has helped to boost our sales.”

Proceeds from the concert will be given to the Ellie Leathert Fund, which aims to raise £45,000 for treatment to help a girl with cerebral palsy, and Veterans in Communities.

It will take place on Saturday, May 18 from 7.30pm. Tickets cost £10 and include supper. They can be purchased from Pam’s Bookend in Great Harwood, the Lemon Tree in Rishton and Norden High school.
