TWO men have appeared in court charged with the murder of Alan Lee Street.

Brothers-in-law Peter Leonard, 51, of no fixed address but formerly of Arncliffe Avenue, Accrington, and Allan Palmer, 43, of Stockbridge Road, Padiham, were arrested last Wednesday after handing themselves in to police following an extensive 39-day search.

They were charged on Friday night and appeared at Burnley Crown Court on Saturday morning.

They spoke only to confirm their names, dates of birth and addresses during the short hearing.

Neither applied for bail and they were both remanded in custody to appear at Preston Crown Court today (Friday).

Two more men, Kieran Davison, 20, of Stockbridge Road, Padiham, who was Palmer’s lodger, and 45-year-old Ian Palmer, his brother, of Whitegate Close, Padiham, had previously been charged with the murder of 26-year-old Mr Street who lived in Lime Street, Oswaldtwistle.

The charges came after police found bloodstained clothing in a blood-soaked room in a house in Stockbridge Road, Padiham, three days before Christmas.

After a painstaking police inquiry without a body, contractors found Mr Street’s  body by chance.

He was discovered lying face down in a stream in an underwater culvert in Mount Street, Accrington, on 19 January.

Following the arrest of the two men, Detective Superintendent Neil Hunter, leading the investigation, thanked the local media for their support and members of the public who had contacted the police with information.
