Elderly residents across Hyndburn have received Christmas presents donated by kind-hearted residents.

More than 2,500 gifts were delivered by members of the over-75 community nursing team before Christmas Day and were provided by residents, community groups, schools and businesses.

It follows an appeal in November by Lisa Murray who wanted to help as many pensioners who are housebound or would not have family visiting on Christmas Day.

Lisa, 39, from Baxenden, praised everyone for their help.

Se said: “We would like to say thank you for everyone’s support and enthusiasm in promoting this event and making some special Hyndburn people’s Christmas that little bit extra special.

“When I started this event, encouraged by my two boys, I never expected it to take off as much as it has. The community spirit and drive has been immense and I am overwhelmed and proud to be a part of a wonderful community.”

Lisa said it will now become an annual event and they have also received requests for the scheme to be expanded to other parts of East Lancashire.
