An elderly couple's life savings have been stolen during a burglary in Rishton.

The burglary took place at around 2pm on Monday, April 25, at a house on Station Road when the couple, who are aged 87 and 90, had left their home for a few minutes to post a letter.

When they returned the discovered a 'considerable amount' of money had been stolen.

DS Paul Langley, of Accrington CID, is now appealing for information following the burglary.

He said: "This is a despicable crime in which I believe this couple were deliberately targeted and robbed of their life savings.

"The couple had been planning home improvements in the coming weeks and are understandably devastated.

"They had two men carry out roofing work in the days running up to the burglary and the same two men had called at their home earlier on the day of the offence.

"I appeal for these two men to come forward in order that they can be eliminated from the enquiry and also ask that any other residents have seen anybody acting suspiciously to contact the police on 01254 373742 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
