Firefighters helped gain entry into a 97-year-old woman’s Accrington house following reports she was struggling to breathe.

Crews were alerted by the North West Ambulance Service and called to a house on Ribblesdale Avenue at around 9.45pm on Tuesday, June 23.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said they had to gain access through a first floor window to let the paramedics inside.

It is understood she was taken to hospital.
