THE Salvation Army is to pull out of Accrington after nearly 125 years.

A final thanksgiving service will be held at the Citadel in Charter Street at 6.30pm next Sunday.

Divisional Commander Major Chuck Yuill thanked congregation members for their support and paid tribute to those who have supported the church over the years.

He added: "The closure of one of our churches is never easy. However the local congregation has become very small and this has resulted in the relatively few members carrying very heavy responsibilities.

"I do want to pay tribute to the courtesy and industry of the present membership and to express my thanks to the people of Accrington who have supported the Salvation Army over many years."

Major Yuill will conduct the final service and the Salvation Army Band from Blackburn will attend.
