A CONCERT in memory of charity champ Andy Nuttall raised an amazing £4,000 for the scanner appeal.

Big-hearted Andy, who died after losing his cancer battle in December, had raised in the region of £25,000 himself for local charities when he and his wife Irene ran the Stop and Rest pub and then became stewards at Oswaldtwistle Conservative Club.

The club was full to bursting for a charity night in his memory, when singers Claude Powell and Johnny Solo and group Smart Move gave their services free of charge to help boost Andy's Scanner Appeal.

Over £1,000 in donations came flooding in within two weeks of Andy's death and raffles, bottles on the bar and ticket money sent the sum soaring to £3,600 on the night.

But the icing on the cake came when the Mayor of Hyndburn, Councillor Mrs Sandra Hayes, who was a good friend of Andy, announced that the sum would be made up to £4,000 from the Mayor's Charity Fund.
