GALE force winds caused a derelict house in Accrington to collapse.

Fire crews rushed to the scene at Hudson Street where a gaping hole was all that once stood of the property.

Police immediately cordoned off the area.

Meanwhile a lorry overturned on the A56 southbound near Huncoat adding to traffic chaos, as motorists across the region were advised to drive at 20mph on motorways.

Slates, guttering and other debris crashed to the ground as they were ripped off roofs on Abbey Street, Accrington, including the base of charity Maundy Relief Trust.

A fallen tree also caused traffic chaos as it blocked off Union Road in Oswaldtwistle.
