TWO masked men armed with baseball bats stole a cash box from a van delivering money to a petrol station in Huncoat.

The men were seen standing by the Securicor van, which was parked at the Griffin Head service station in Burnley Road, when the robbery occurred at 10.20 on Wednesday morning.

They are believed to have fled the scene in a white van, which was later found by police to have been abandoned at the rear of Burnley Road.

A black cash box covered in red dye was later discovered in the car park of Winfields in Haslingden.

As the Observer went to press police believed no cash had been taken.

"The cash box was also found a short time later on the car park at Winfields. At this time it is believed that no cash has been taken."
