Gas pipe set on fire in Rishton was arson, say firefighters

An arson investigation has been launched after someone set fire to a gas pipe on the outside of a building.

An arson investigation has been launched after someone set fire to a gas pipe on the outside of a building.

The incident happened on Knowles Street in Rishton at around 1pm on Friday, December 7.

John Taylor, of Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, said it was a very dangerous act.

He added: "It was deliberate. The gas fed two unoccupied houses via an external pipe and caused a fire in the alley way.

"Someone tried to set fire to an external gas pipe which is a reckless and dangerous thing to do. Firefighters caught it in time before anything worse happened and it didn't."
