Hyndburn Rotary clubs joined forces to help with flood relief in Pakistan last weekend.

Volunteers from the Accrington, Church and Oswaldtwistle, Great Harwood and Rishton, and Pendle View Rotary clubs made a joint effort in collecting donations to help with emergency efforts.

Accrington Rotary club member George Blenkinship said: "Rotary members across the world are working hard to provide a future for them and to bring them hope and stability."

The members from the four clubs were collecting at Oswaldtwistle Mills and in Great Harwood and Rishton.

George Blenkinship added that

the communuity always helped out at times like these.

He said: "Our local community here in Hyndburn always rises to the challenge and this time was no different.

"The local Rotary clubs have already donated to ShelterBox and Aquabox for relief to the Pakistan flood victims and all additional money collected on Saturday will go to the relief effort in a similar way."

ShelterBox is a Rotary supported disaster relief charity that provides shelter to those who have been affected by disasters worldwide.

A ShelterBox provides a family of ten with quality survival equipment to use while they rebuild their homes. Each box costs £495 and they are delivered by highly trained ShelterBox Response Teams.

An Aquabox is a robust plastic tank with water purification tablets and packed with essential welfare items for a disaster situation.

Each Aquabox can be used to purify up to 1100 litres of water, enough for a family of four to drink 10 cups per day for about four months.

George Blenkinship said: "We would like to thank everyone who contributed to our collection at the weekend.

By providing aid in this way, Rotary can be sure that the most appropriate support gets to those who need it."
