DRAMATIC changes have been made to the Holgate Street area of Great Harwood – one of the gateways into Hyndburn.

The improvement work, which started last July, has now been completed and has already had a dramatic visual impact. The final piece of the improvement work, the town centre entrance sign, is the crowning glory.

The steel cut sign, featuring the Great Harwood crest standing 2.5 metres high, was created following months of consultation, design and development.

Netherton ward councillor Lynn Wilson said: “This is great news for the town and I am delighted that the work is now finished. These improvements are a major bonus to the shops and businesses at the top end of town.”

The car park, which previously suffered from poor lighting and poor drainage, has now received additional lighting and a new surface.

The improvements will make it much easier to use the car park for town centre users, encouraging shoppers and visitors to Great Harwood, in particular to the Towngate area.

Councillor Wilson, added: “Great Harwood Area Council has contributed a large sum of its own money to this scheme because the Towngate shopping area is a major asset to the town centre.

“Great Harwood is very much an up-and-coming town. There has been a major resurgence of high-quality shops and I’m very encouraged by the new sense of vitality around the place.”
