CHILDREN from Mount Pleasant Primary School in Clayton-le-Moors are competing against David Beckham and Kylie this Christmas.

They have launched their very own calendar featuring designs by 12 children who were selected from over 400 entries. The calendar has taken two months to produce and also features colourful portraits of all the pupils, aged between four and 11.

Around £200 was donated by kind-hearted firms including Snap-On Tools, Greyhound Ford, Flowers and Frills and Darren Helm Building Contractors, who gave the project a boost.

Debbie Bonney, who selected the winners with colleagues Dru Sweeney, Alison Sellers and Joe Smith, said: "The children designed things like bonfires for November and Valentine's love hearts for February. It looks really good."

Moorhead High School has kindly run off 400 copies of the calendars to go on sale to parents. The school would like to hear from more firms to sponsor the project. If you can help, contact the school on 232046.
