Hyndburn Mayor Judith Addison attended the most coffee mornings of any East Lancashire Mayor to win the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning Mayor’s Challenge.

Coun Addison attended 18 events in support of Macmillan Cancer Support’s annual event.

The Mayor said the day had been  manic but enjoyable.

She said: “We did 18 altogether. There were 16 on the schedule but I fitted in two extra ones. I was surprised we were able to fit them all in. Most of them were in Oswaldtwistle and Accrington and the two impromptu ones were in Clayton on our way to Great Harwood .  Some were in the mornings and some were in the afternoon so we were rushing back and forth. Everybody was very pleased to see us.

“In some cases we could only stay five to 10 minutes but I think they were glad we bothered to call.” The day took in the Peel Park Hotel, North Lancs Training Group, Shopmobility in Arndale, Oasis Church, St Andrew's Court, Scaitcliffe House, Greycroft Residential Home, the Old England Forever pub, and Church and Oswaldtwistle and Great Harwood and Rishton Rotary Clubs, among others.

Cuppas were brewed across the borough at schools, churches, businesses and community centres. Barbara Kays  on Whalley Road, Clayton-le-Moors, raised £1,000 over two days. The Baxenden and Accrington Poplat Slimming World groups raised £135 with their coffee mornings.
