Accrington Stanley have confirmed that Ilyas Khan has completed his takeover of the club.

The corporate restructuring means that former chairman Eric Whalley is no longer a club shareholder and David O'Neill will continue as a director until the end of the season.

The club is now controlled by its board with Mr Khan owning a majority of the shares.

A statement on the club website read: "The club wishes to place on record its gratitude to Eric Whalley and his family for their support over the years and also for their co-operation in reaching this final agreement. We also wish to thank Eric for the invaluable role he played in guiding the club back to the Football League. His contribution is a matter of public record and a permanent feature of the club’s proud history. The club also wishes to formally thank David O’Neill for his role in helping to finalise the restructuring."

Ilyas Khan, non-executive chairman said: "I am grateful to everyone at the club, but in particular the players and the staff, for the loyalty and devotion they have shown. At times such as this, actions speak louder than words. I will need people to be a little more patient as we work through the next week or two as we work through the various issues that are still in need of attention.

"I would also like to appeal to our wonderful fans, and to the community as a whole to step up and support our team in the last few weeks of the season. Please come to the Crown ground during our remaining home games, and join me as we stand tall and proud behind Coley and the boys."
