A Met Office spokesman said: “Since Sunday we have had a good few days of cold weather and as the rain has come in that has precipitated as snow.

“In some higher areas the snow will stick around but it will mostly be gone by the latter part of Wednesday. There should be a brighter start to Thursday with temperatures reaching higher single figures.

“Temperatures could fall to freezing in some areas overnight with the coldest night expected to be Friday.

“This weekend there should be drier spells with a chance of some rain and temperatures returning to normal.”

Hyndburn Council said the snow caused no disruption to their services.
