It was a right royal knees up as thousands of people across Hyndburn celebrated the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Street parties were enjoyed by revellers at more than a dozen sites across the borough including Accrington, Oswaldtwistle, Great Harwood, Rishton, Clayton and Baxenden.

In schools children enjoyed tea parties and made decorations especially for the event.

Elsewhere community groups, local organisations and churches joined in the fun with parties picnics and fetes.

At St Mary’s Church in Oswaldtwistle there was a special Jubilee lunch while St Oswald’s church in Knuzden held a celebratory event on the village green.

Hyndburn Council leader Miles Parkinson said: "When the British want to celebrate something we all manage to come together and make the absolute best of it and that’s been evident in Hyndburn over this very special Bank Holiday weekend.

"We’ve had some fantastic events and, for those that unfortunately had rain, the British stiff upper lip was on show."
