A FOOTBALL crazy Oswaldtwistle girl had all her birthday wishes come true after meeting her footballing heroes.
Katie Mullen, of Banbury Close, celebrated her 21st birthday with Blackburn Rovers' first team stars after an exclusive invitation from the Premiership club.
Following her family's letter to Rovers, the club laid on a series of special treats beginning with a chauffeur-driven ride to their training ground complex in the Ribble Valley.
Katie, a life-long Rovers fan and season ticket holder who has Down's Syndrome, was then introduced to all her favourite players, including midfielder David Thompson who presented her with a huge bouquet of flowers on the club's behalf.
He said: "We were told that she couldn't celebrate her birthday like other girls and as she is a big Rovers fan and knows about all the players this would be a great way of marking her big day.
"We were all made up to have them come down, especially for her birthday, and we just hope that today was really enjoyable for her."
David's team mates queued up to sign autographs for Katie and chatted with her in the players' lounge.
Katie then watched on in awe as her footballing idols took part in a training session in preparation for their Premiership clash with Middlesbrough on New Year's Day.
Katie's mum, Maureen, said: "We just want to say thank-you to all the players and the staff who have been wonderful and have gone out of their way to make her day memorable.
"She had a fantastic time and grinned from ear-to-ear all day."
