Lead thieves have targeted a primary school for a third time, causing more than £1,000 worth of damage.

An unknown offender climbed onto the roof of Peel Park primary school in Accrington in the early hours of Saturday, February 28.

He removed lead from the roof before making off undetected and caused damage to the roof and electrics.

CCTV from the school has been handed over to the police.

The school has been targeted three times in the past year and twice in recent months. The school is now lead-free as the stolen lead is being replaced with lead-free materials.

Headteacher Mrs Williams said: "We are devastated at the amount of damage and disruption this has caused in school again.

"It is not even six months since the last theft took place and cost the school thousands of pounds to repair.

"This time the damage is far more wide ranging.

"These people who carry out such thefts are utterly heartless as the money used to repair the damage comes out of the school budget which is supposed to be spent on the children.

"We appeal to anyone who knows anything about this incident to contact wither the school or the police.

"We also want to stress that there is now no lead left on the roof as it has been replaced with waterproof membrane."

Call police on 101 with information.
