A lorry driver slept as his vehicle caught fire in an incident at Clayton Business Park in the early hours of Thursday (July 1)

 Fire crews were called to the incident at 12.30am when an articulated heavy goods vehicle was reported as being on fire at the business park in Clayton-le-Moors.

They discovered that the vehicle's load of pressed cardboard was alight.

The driver had been asleep in the cab of the vehicle at the time and was alerted to the fire by passers by before calling 999.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue are treating the fire as suspicious and as such there is to be a joint investigation with police led by Accrington CID. It is not yet clear how much damage has been caused.
