A man has admitting stabbing a woman in Oswaldtwistle.

Gary Oldham, 41, of St Paul’s Court, pleaded guilty to wounding with intent and possessing an offensive weapon at Preston Crown Court.

He denied a charge of attempted murder and the pleas were accepted to the Crown.

Oldham has now been remanded into custody for sentence at the court on Monday, February 15.

Armed police were called to an address on Havelock Street after Amy Newton, 26, received stab wounds to her abdomen and shoulder.

She was taken to Royal Preston Hospital for treatment and he injuries were described as not life threatening.

The incident happened at around 4pm on Tuesday, September 29 and armed police and a police helicopter were called to the area.
