A man who was left in ‘serious condition’ after a road traffic collision has died, police have confirmed.
Paul Hart, 49, from Clayton-le-Moors, was cut free from a blue Fiat Stilo car by firefighters after it collided with a roundabout lamppost and railings at the junction of Church Street and Grange Street.
The incident happened at around 8.20pm on Saturday, February 20.
Mr Hart, who was the driver of the car, died in hospital on Wednesday night, police said.
Another man, 49, who was a passenger in the car was also taken to hospital but his injuries are not said to be life threatening.
The road was closed for around four hours following the collision.
PS John Jennings-Wharton, of the East Road Policing Unit, said: “We have already traced some witnesses but we would be keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the car travelling in the Grange Street area prior to the incident or who indeed witnessed the collision itself.”
