A man has been hospitalised after he and his wife were attacked by masked raiders in a caravan in Accrington.

The victim, 37, suffered serious head injuries when two men wearing balaclavas broke into the caravan, parked on Whinney Hill Road, and assaulted him and his wife.

The offenders, who were armed possibly with a knife or some other sharp instrument, fled on foot in the direction of Huncoat. Police say they may or may not have got into vehicle waiting nearby.

The victim suffered serious head injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Royal Preston Hospital, though his injuries are not described as life threatening. His wife suffered minor injuries.

Detectives are now appealing for information about the incident, which took place at around 9.20pm on Sunday, April 14.

Detective Inspector Mark Vaughton asked anybody with any information to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

He said: “This was a nasty and violent assault which has left a man with serious head injuries.

“We do believe the victim was known to his attackers. If anybody has any information about this incident I would urge them to contact police.”
