A man has been rushed to hospital following a multi vehicle collision in Accrington this afternoon.

The incident happened at around 12.35pm when three cars, a Mercedes, a Toyota and a Ford collided at the junction of Burnley Road and Bolton Avenue.

A North West Ambulance Service spokesperson said a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance were dispatched, one male was unconscious and was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital.

A further two people were treated at the scene.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: “We were called at around 12.35pm to reports of a three-vehicle collision.

“The fire service and paramedics are at the scene and the road remains closed.”

In a post on its Facebook page, Hyndburn Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Two crews from Hyndburn Fire Station just attended a road traffic accident involving three cars on Burnley Road in Accrington.

“Firefighters assisted paramedics with three casualties and made the scene and the cars safe.

“The road will remain closed until the cars can be recovered.”
