A BUSY hospital sister from Accrington has hit a lucky streak and will soon be bathing in the tropical waters of the Indian Ocean.
Marilyn Threlfall, 60, of Burnley Road, couldn't believe her luck when she won two competitions in a week.
First, she won the Observer's Valentine competition for a romantic weekend at a top MacDonald's hotel.
But that was only for starters as she quickly bagged a fabulous 10-night all-expenses-paid holiday in the Maldives with GMTV.
Marilyn, who has worked as a sister in the gynaecology outpatients department at Burnley General Hospital for 28 years, said: "I read the Observer every Friday. It's my Bible.
"When I saw the competition I thought I'd have a go. Then I forgot about it until I got loads of phone calls the following week from friends who read I'd won.
"I usually only enter one competition a month but I was sitting in the kitchen one Friday watching GMTV and saw the Maldives which looked fabulous.
"At the time I thought to myself that no-one ever really wins these competitions.
"I went off to work in the morning and I didn't even know I'd won until I got loads of texts from friends asking if I was the big winner. I just can't believe I won both competitions."
Former X-Factor contestant Chico drew the winner live on television for the fantastic holiday in a deluxe beach bungalow in the Kurumba Resort with £1,000 spending money.
Marilyn lives with her husband Raymond and has four grown-up children, Darryl, Renee and twins Brett and Leigh, who all live in Accrington.
She added: "Raymond and I love travelling. We went to Sri Lanka 14 years ago and it was absolutely stunning.
"I'm looking forward to snorkelling in the clear warm waters of the resort."
The couple plan to take the Observer break at the Kilhey Court Hotel, Standish, and hope to take their Maldives trip at the start of next year.
Marilyn said: "I'm not entering any more competitions for a while. I will let someone else have a go.''
