A procession celebrated the centenary anniversary of Mercer Park in Clayton-le-Moors.

Residents, dignitaries and members of the All Saints Beavers, Cubs and Scouts groups were led by the Todmorden Community Brass Band from Barnes Square down Church Street to the park - 100 years to the day when since was officially opened.

In June 1916 hundreds of people gathered as Oakenshaw gardens were handed to the people of Clayton-le-Moors.

Organisers of the event on Sunday, June 5 said they wanted to recreate the nostalgic sights and sounds as part of a family fun day to commemorate the anniversary.

Ally Hodgson, of Mercer House 1842, said: “It was fabulous weather and it was the place to be in Clayton-le-Moors.

“There were lots of families in the park to celebrate 100 years and there must have been at least 200 there for the parade.

“The Mayor said words of welcome and how good it is to have the lovely park open to the public.

“We had about nine different fairground attractions for the children including a helter skelter and bouncy castle and stalls.”

Mark Cooper, who runs the oswaldtwistlefromabove Facebook group, also sent us some overhead drone pictures capturing the park in all its splendour.
