ACCRINGTON Register Office on Willow Street has re-opened its doors after being given a revamp.

The office was forced to close before Christmas to allow the work to go ahead but has now returned to business as usual following the upgrade.

A spokesman for Lancashire County Council said: "The investment has provided modern, light offices with improved privacy for couples attending to give notice of their intention to marry.

"The work also means that the ceremonies officers who are responsible for the ceremony programme in the area will shortly be able to move into Accrington from their temporary base at Clitheroe.

"While the offices have a new modern look, the ceremony room remains untouched with its popular, warm, welcoming, traditional feel."

County Councillor Jean Battle said: "I know that the staff are pleased to be resuming normal service and are looking forward to many more happy couples coming through the doors."
