A marathon set of roadworks has temporarily closed an Accrington road for five weeks so engineers can continue laying a £2m sewer system.

United Utilities bosses are being urged by water bosses to avoid Dunny Shop Avenue, from house number 33 to the junction with Wordsworth Road.

Then, from May 11, the site will be extended to outside number 25 Dunny Shop Avenue for a further three weeks.

Pedestrians can still access the street.

A 600 cubic metres underground storage tank is being built beneath Mount Carmel High School playing fields and thousands of metres of pipes are being laid to stop homes along Wordsworth Road flooding from rainwater.
