A kind-hearted nurse is aiming to raise £10,000 for charity after her best friend was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Elisabeth Devey, from Rishton, has set herself a series of challenges including marathons, skydives and a charity ball in aid of the Brain Cancer Charity.

The mum-of-two said she has been inspired and motivated to raise the funds after her best friend Natalie Wilson from Burnley was diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Earlier this year she completed the Manchester 10K and last month did a 15,000ft skydive.

The 33-year-old is now preparing for a half-
marathon in Birmingham before a charity ball on November 8 at the Fisherman’s Retreat in Ramsbottom and the Disneyland Florida marathon in January.

Elisabeth said she has also agreed to shave her hair off when she reaches the £10,000 target.

She said: “It all started in April this year. My friend was diagnosed with a brain tumour six years ago and unfortunately it came back last year.

“I started off saying I would just run a marathon but now I’ve got four things on the go.

“I did the Manchester 10k in 72 minutes and considering I used to be a couch potato I was really pleased with it.”

Elisabeth, who works as a post-natal nurse at Burnley Hospital, said she also lost nearly three-and-a-half stone over a four-month period to meet the skydive weight limit.

She said: “The skydive was pretty horrifying but amazing.

“I was supposed to just do 11,000ft but on the day I upgraded to 15,000ft.”

Elisabeth said she has also attracted attention while running around Hyndburn after wearing a set of Mickey Mouse ears.

She said: “People have been driving past probably wondering what I’m doing and what I’m wearing. It would be great to let them know and for them to give me a cheer if they see me out and about.” To donate visit: mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/liztothelimit.
