A nursery in Great Harwood has increased its capacity by 50 per cent after expanding its building.

Little Cheeky Monkeys on Edward Street will now be able to accommodate 90 children up to the age of eight after the extension from the previous limit of 60.

The expansion has been funded by a Lancashire County Council grant assistance scheme and comes after the government’s decision to expand free education to two-year-olds.

The Observer reported in November last year how plans were submitted by the nursery to Hyndburn Council to provide 30 new places for children up to the age of two.

A spokesperson for the nursery said: “Little Cheeky Monkeys has now upped their numbers from 60 children per day to 90 per day thanks to our fantastic extension funded by the Lancashire County Council.

“Faye Westwell, the manager, and Paul Wells, director of Little Cheeky Monkeys, have been working closely with the council to provide more places for two-year-olds that can access the 15 free hour child care subject to the new criteria, which is on their website.

“The room has been extended and new designer furniture has been purchased to keep our cheeky monkeys stimulated and give them the best start in their education .”

The nursery will hold an open day on Saturday, August 9, for parents and children to have a look around and see their facilities.

Faye Westwell will also be on hand to answer any questions about the funding and admission policy.
