Families and staff in Clayton-le-Moors are celebrating after a nursery was awarded an outstanding rating for a second time running.

Ofsted gave a glowing report to Sparthfield Happy Day Nursery for the facilities, staff and the wide range of learning activities to engage young children.

The nursery, on Whalley Road, was previously awarded an outstanding rating in 2010 and bosses said they were delighted to have maintained their high standards.

Nicola Sleddon, deputy manager, said: “Ofsted came in and spent the day with us and had a look at all the various things going on.

“We are all absolutely chuffed to bits as you can’t get any better than outstanding.”

Inspector Elisia Jane Lee, said in her report: “The environment is highly stimulating and contains an immense breadth of quality resources which provide children with a wealth of engaging learning opportunities...it is vibrant and highly engaging, supporting children to independently access resources and initiate their own play.

“Children are extremely confident and self-assured and explore their surroundings with a very high level of enthusiasm.”

The nursery was registered in 2006 employing 16 childcare staff, with around 90 children in their early years ago group.

Nursery provider Peter Dawber congratulated his staff, saying he was ‘very pleased’ with their hard work and achievements.
