A pensioner has been left shaken after being punched in an unprovoked attack.

The 76-year-old man was assaulted after he heard a disturbance outside his home on Thwaites Road in Oswaldtwistle on Saturday, January 3.

Police have said that the victim went out to ask a woman in her twenties who was speaking loudly on her phone to keep the noise down.

As he walked away from the woman, a man approached him and without warning punched him to the face.

PC Stuart King, of Blackburn Police, said: “This was an unprovoked attack on an elderly man who has sustained a nasty injury to his face as a result.

"I would appeal to anyone who may have seen the incident to contact us. I would also urge anybody who may have any information about the woman who was on her phone for around 15 to 30 minutes in the area to get in touch."

Anyone with information can contact Lancashire Police on 101 quoting crime reference number ED1500197.
