A wanted man held off police in a three-and-a-half hour siege.

Officers were called to Albert Street in Church at around 6.30pm on Wednesday, July 23 to arrest a man wanted in connection with a house burglary.

However the man locked himself inside the house armed with a knife and was threatening to harm himself.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “He didn't want to come out and was making threats to self-harm.

“We put a containment on the house and the street and police negotiators were called in to assist."

Firefighters and the ambulance service were all called the scene on standby.

A 36-year-old man from Church has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and remains in police custody for questioning.
