A Great Harwood police officer has praised voluntary police cadets for raising £500 for two chosen charities.

Youngsters with the Hyndburn Ribble Valley Voluntary Police Cadets group collected the money after taking part in the Church and Oswaldtwistle Rotary Club charity 10km walk last month.

Thirteen cadets completed the walk and the money was raised by the whole unit.

A total of £250 has been donated to both the Cancer Research and Help for Heroes charities.

Sarah Barton, of Great Harwood police and the Early Action Team, said: “It just highlights the good work the cadets have done throughout the year.”

The cadet group was formed nearly two years ago an in recent months has helped with a community ‘Big Clean Up’ and also took part in the Great Harwood Prom in the Park.

The Rotary walk helped raise a total of £25,000 for various good causes.
