DETECTIVES investigating the murder of convicted rapist Alan Lee Street believe his body may be buried on moorland between Oswaldtwistle and Knuzden.

It was announced this week that land running along Haslingden Old Road between Oswaldtwistle and Knuzden and a second site in the Rivington Pike area of Bolton is to be searched following several tip-offs.

Detective Superintendent Neil Hunter, who is leading the investigation, said: "We are conducting extensive inquiries in our efforts to find Alan Lee Street’s body and have extended the search for him in response to information we have received from the public.

"While I cannot exclude other open land and locations I would appeal for anyone, particularly ramblers or dog walkers who may have seen the Mitsubishi Colt car which was a silver blue colour or a number of men acting suspiciously, to get in touch.

"Another area we are concentrating on is as far away as Rivington Pike, where there are a number of picnic sites. Again if anyone saw the vehicle while out walking especially on Sunday 21 December 2008 I would be extremely interested in speaking to them."
