POLICE are warning Hyndburn folk to be vigilant following a postal scam which is being circulated in the Lancashire area.

Letters are being sent to various addresses from someone purporting to be from an Asian investment company using the name DBS Capital Invest-ment Ltd.

The letter states that someone with the same surname as the recipient has recently died, leaving US$12.5M in a Singapore Bank account, and that the deceased left no will and has no next of kin.

The recipient of the letter is then asked if he or she is willing to pose as the next of kin and receive the money before the Singapore government claims it.

A number of contact details are then given, which include a telephone number, fax number and e-mail address.

The recipient is asked to respond to the letter within a specified time period and to treat the matter with the strictest confidence.

Police are urging Accrington folk not to respond to the letter as the calls could incur extortionate charges.

Police are requesting that the public handle these letters as little as possible and contact DC Pete Denson at Burnley CID on 01282 425001.
