Hens and pigeons have been stolen from allotments in Accrington.

Hens and pigeons have been stolen from allotments in Accrington.

Raiders swiped the birds from two plots next to each other near Bellfield Road.

Police said they took six Rhode Island red hens and four pigeons between 4pm on Sunday, January 6 and 9am on Monday, January 7.

Sgt Catherine Platt said: "The allotment plots the birds were stolen from were next to each other. It is one of the more unusual crimes. We tend to get equipment being stolen from allotments but not usually animals. Enquiries are ongoing. Anyone with information can contact 101."
