Police in Rishton are urging residents to be extra vigilant when locking their doors this winter.
Officers have asked householders to double check security and lighting.
PCSO Steve Charnley said it is important people take simple steps to bolster security.
He added: “Rishton is a safe place and crime levels are low, but it is important that residents don’t become complacent.
"Simple things like closing your curtains when it goes dark and making sure your door is locked will provide a deterrent.”
