Runners took to the streets to complete a 5km run to raise funds for the Poppy Appeal and Royal British Legion.

The 'Poppy Run' started and finished at St John's CE Primary School in Baxenden on Sunday, November 2.

The event was organised by Michael Hughes and Nick Gaskell

Cheryle Hindle, 34, who helped out at the event, said: “It is the 100th anniversary of the First World War this year and obviously there is the connection with Accrington and the Pals.

“We thought it would be a good idea to raise money for the Poppy Appeal and Royal British Legion and to make it fun as well."

Cheryl, of Sultan Street, Accrington, said she wanted to help support the British Legion in the area because of her 15-year-old son Luke who is a Lance Corporal.

She said: “My son is in the army cadets and I said I was really interested in helping out and I'm very proud of the town. I jumped at the chance to do this as I think it is a brilliant idea."
