AN OUTBREAK of protective SARS masks has begun in Great Harwood.
E B Holden's chemist in Queen Street is advertising masks for 99p in the shop window.
And manager Ashraf Mohammed said he has already sold a couple of hundred to customers travelling overseas.
He said: "It just came up in conversation with a few regular customers who were going to visit relatives in Australia and Canada. There are a lot of people in Great Harwood with relatives in Australia in particular."
"They are taking precautions by buying a few masks to take with them or wear on the plane and in certain airports like Singapore and Hong Kong. I got them from a surgical supplier and have sold a couple of boxes, about 200. I have one customer who had relatives over from Canada recently and I believe it has flared up again there. People are just being careful if they have to travel," he added.
Mr Mohammed said he and his wife had actually been considering a holiday in Canada. "We're not so sure now," he said.
