CASH-strapped Accrington Stanley has today (Friday) issued an SOS to try to save the club from folding for the second time in its history.

The League Two side launched Save our Stanley, the official campaign to raise money to satisfy HM Revenue and Customs' demand for £308,000 in just under eight weeks.

At a press conference this afternoon the club outlined plans for the coming weeks, while fans are invited to the Crown Ground at 7.30pm tonight to ask questions about the current situation.

Offers have already started coming in with Burnley manager Owen Coyle handing Stanley the chance for a lucrative game against his Premiership stars at Turf Moor next Tuesday (8 September). All proceeds from the game will go to Stanley.

Bury are supporting a bucket collection by the Stanley Ultras in their match this weekend and have encouraged Shakers fans to attend Stanley's home game against Darlington next Friday.

A Reds statement read: "The club will be seeking to tap into the goodwill of all who support Accrington Stanley, whether they be supporters who regularly come to our home games, people who live in and around the town and want to see their local club survive, or people from further afield who have an affection for our famous club and perhaps follow other sides but see us as their second team.

"We have been heartened by the messages of support, literally from around the globe, reaffirming our belief that there is a strong affinity for our club that goes well beyond the game of football."

The website www.saveourstanley.co.uk was launched today - which will be used to keep supporters updated with regards to activities that will be taking place and totals raised from various events. On it are details of how people can help the club, with the ability to make a donation by post, telephone, text or online.

The Reds have also set up a dedicated telephone service that will collect a one off donation of £1.50 from the caller. The number is 0907 706 4648, and Stanley chiefs are hoping to appeal to the large number of people around the country that have an affection for the club.

Fans can also give a one off donation of £5 by texting ACCRINGTON to 80777 or £10 by texting STANLEY to 79988.

A calendar of events will soon be posted and maintained on the Save our Stanley website, with details of activities being run by both the club and by supporters.
