Hardworking students have been rewarded with scholarships into higher education, following Accrington and Rossendale College’s Higher Education Awards ceremony.

The Pilkington Scholarship is a fund which grants scholarships to those who have studied at the College, after attending a local school.

College principal Sue Taylor said it was an “absolute pleasure to see the hard work of the students rewarded”.

She added: “There were many inspiring stories in the nominations received from students’ tutors, and the committees were impressed with the resilience and determination of students to succeed.”

Recipients of the scholarship included Rosie Flatman and Roeshene Savage from Accrington, and Matthew Haworth from Clayton-le-Moors.

Accrington students Reece Fielding and Ashley Scott were also rewarded with the Jacob Bridge Mechanical Scholarship - an award for those who are following courses in technology, engineering or science.
