POLICE are appealing for witnesses after knife-wielding thugs forced a terrified female shop assistant to hand over cash.

Booze Busters off-licence in Burnley Road, Accrington, was targeted by two robbers at 9pm on Wednesday as the shop was about to close.

The lone shop assistant was forced to open the till and hand over £100 at knifepoint before the robbers ran off towards Avenue Parade.

The man brandishing the knife has been described as white, medium build, 6ft 2ins tall and believed to be of Eastern European origin.

He was wearing a scarf to cover his face.

The other offender acted as a lookout.

Detective Sergeant Zoe Russo said: "The staff member has been left extremely shaken as a result of this. I am appealing to anyone who may have information about the robbery."
